April's Book of the Month- The Goodness of Unicorns by Kayla E. Green

Kayla E. Green's YA fantasy, The Goodness of Unicorns, is this month's Book Worthy Book of the Month.

The Goodness of Unicorns Book Review

The story of two sisters, one determined to heal her sister and the other looking for purpose in a nation on the brink of war.

Kayla E. Green's The Goodness of Unicorns is a fantasy set in a country set on war. The faithless enemies of Oblivion are set on taking over the land of Wisteria. A land still faithful to Verimor, although no one has seen the unicorns in years.

This is a sweet fantasy book for kids ages 14-16.

It follows the adventures of the Tritonia sisters, Rowen and Blythe.

Rowen wants nothing else but to help her crippled sister be healed, and Blythe wants to live the life Verimor has given her, whether she's healed or not.

When 16-year-old Rowen is mysteriously blessed by a Unicorn of Verimor, she is summoned by the King to aid in the rising war. She hopes her new gift will help her find a way to heal Blythe. But traitors in the castle might find a way to taint Rowen's gifting and put Blythe and Wisteria in greater danger.

Great characters and an interesting world with Wheel of Time vibes, minus the language and spice. The religion system in this fantasy world, has some similarities to Christianity, but is not completely defined within this book.

This is a very clean read with hints of romance and no lip-to-lip kissing.

Kayla E. Green does a good job of defining healthy and toxic relationships among friends and 'love-interests'

It does read like the first book in a series without a clear character(s) arc between the covers, but it introduces a lot of characters and tensions that will be fun to explore in future books.
