Dragon Slayers -The Essential Training Guide for Young Dragon Fighters
Dragon Slayers is a unique combination of an imaginative field guide, Armor of God Devotional, and biographies for ages 8-12.
While engaging a child's imagination and sense of adventure, Dragon Slayers walks through several steps of the Christian faith.
Joining the fight- the Narrator Sir Wyvern the Puglist is a fun and engaging character from the start. In the first chapter, he talks about a decision to be a Dragon Slayer and the importance of making that decision. There is a lack of a clear gospel presentation. There is an assumption that the reader knows the "Powers that Be" (the Trinity- which is explored more in Chapter Two) and the Chief Dragon Slayer (Jesus). As long as these distinctions are made before engaging in this book and the Gospel decision is made clear, this book is a fun way to visualize the Christian life.
The Armor given- a clear and well-communicated explanation of Ephesians 6:10-18, while encouraging kids that they are both equipped and never alone in the battles of life.
The Dragons we face- This is what captivated my kids the most. This section of the book personifies many of the sins and struggles we face on a day-to-day basis as dragons to fight.
It helps put feelings and actions to emotions in a way that kids can understand.
Examples:

Golgoth - Shame
Frantix - Anxiety
Bucephalus- Anger
Bilgewater -Lying
Dragon Slayers of Times Past- This section of the book walks through simple biographies of men and women of faith throughout Chruch history who stood strong in the faith in hard circumstances. There is a heavy focus on figures in the Catholic denomination of faith, but the biographies themselves focus more on the actions and 'dragons' faced as Christ followers.
This is a very unique and immersive way to engage kids to grow in their knowledge of themselves and what it means to walk in a way that honors Christ.
