This month's book feature is the picture book Izzy's Notebook by Terrie Hellard-Brown

Izzy's Notebook by Terrie Hellard-Brown Book Review

Terrie Hellard-Brown of the Stories that Spark Podcast brings you another engaging picture book, Izzy's Notebook. This is the first of a series entitled Harper and Izzy Best Friends Forever Series.

In this first book, Izzy is mad. So mad at Jesse for hurting her toe and messing up her picture, 'on purpose'. Izzy tries to express her hurt feelings in her Yellow Notebook, but it starts to be a list of all Jesse's wrongs, which only makes her even angrier at Jesse.

When her mother asks what she's writing in her journal, Izzy tells her mother all of Jesse's wrongs.

In a sweet conversation, Izzy is reminded of the importance of forgiveness and how we need to clearly communicate how we feel and look for opportunities to bless others.

I love the message of this book. A great bible verse sets up the heart of the story with a great reminder that we only have control over our actions and thoughts is great.

There isn't much background or setup to help me understand the relationship between the characters. So it took a few pages for me to connect with the characters, but the illustrations and dialogue help establish the setting and relationships pretty quickly.

I'm excited to see what mischief Harper and Izzy get into next.
